So you want numbers for your car but you don't want to go the blue tape route. I have some cheap alternatives that look pretty decent listed below.
-Magnetic Paper: comes in about four to eight sheets and you can print what ever you want on it from a normal printer. We actually tried this on one of our cars and not only did it hold well but cam out great too all for 12 bucks and some printer inc.
-Reusable vinyls: This is a more typical approach, but costs more and is harder to take care of because they have to go back in a holding tray for reuse. The upside is they look as if you painted the numbers on the car. This one costs around 40-50 dollars but you get a high quality look.
-Paper: You can go to staples and buy large piece of poster board and trim it down to what you need then you can use a stencil to draw the numbers in. unfortunately this is one time use more or less due to all the dirt and gravel you're going to be kicking up but a cheap fix if you're strapped for time and supplies. The most practical.
-Magnetic Numbers: You're probably thinking "Isn't this the same as the paper?" No, its not. Staples and office supplies stores sells packages of magnetic numbers and letters already pre-cut for you. Downside to these is the size is small so you're going to have to really search for a good size, secondly the surface area of the magnet is less on most of these because it's in the shape of a letter or number and not the same as a 8.5" by 11" piece of paper. Up side is there cheap at around 10 bucks and require no work aside from you putting them on the car. Word of advice, you might want to tape them down.
The choice is yours to which one you want, I just figured I'd let you guys know what's out there and let me know if there's something out there I haven't heard of yet!
